Pink Suitcase Courier Explains Why She Declined Participation in Drug Smuggling Docuseries

Lee Pony, one of the couriers convicted in the high-profile "Pink Suitcases" drug smuggling case, has publicly explained her decision not to participate in the new yes docuseries about the scandal. In an Instagram post on August 5, 2026, Pony cited her desire to maintain privacy and focus on the life she has built since the incident as key reasons for opting out. She expressed remorse for her past actions but emphasized personal growth, writing, "I am not proud of my past, but I am not ashamed of who I am today."

Pony described the psychological struggles she faced during the period leading to her involvement, noting that her actions stemmed from a place of confusion and a need for acceptance rather than malice. However, she took full responsibility for her choices and apologized sincerely. She urged the public to see beyond her past and recognize her transformation.

The "Pink Suitcases" case came to light in January 2023 when four young Israeli women were arrested at Ben Gurion Airport carrying approximately 15 kilograms of cocaine and ketamine. The case drew extensive media attention due to the involvement of young couriers in drug trafficking for criminal organizations.

The yes docuseries revisits this notorious case, featuring the stories of the four couriers. Only two of them agreed to be interviewed, while Pony and another courier declined to participate. Concurrently, a new drama series inspired by the events of the case is in development, aiming to provide a dramatic retelling of the scandal that shook Israel.

"I do not ask for justification or for people to forget what happened," Pony concluded, "I only hope they can see beyond it."
