Metal Debris from Freight Train Disrupts Haifa and Northern Rail Service
Significant disruptions hit Israel Railways service in the Haifa area and the north on Sunday morning after metal objects fell from a freight car and damaged the track. The damage forced a partial shutdown of train traffic on the affected section and caused widespread delays.
Israel Railways said service was temporarily halted between Haifa Hof HaCarmel, Haifa Bat Galim, Haifa Center HaShmona and the Merkazit HaMifratz station. The disruption also led to changes in routes and service frequency on several northern lines.
Passengers in the Haifa and northern region were advised to consider alternative transportation until full service is restored. Maintenance and engineering teams were sent to the site and were working to resume normal operations as quickly as possible.
Israel Railways said the circumstances of the incident were under investigation and that an inquiry had been opened to determine what caused the metal pieces to fall and interrupt traffic. For now, many passengers in the north are expected to face delays and timetable changes until repair work is completed.
