Israel Marco, vice president for cargo at Israel Railways, will leave his role after an unusual incident last Sunday in which steel coils fell from a freight train. The spill halted train service for hours at stations in the Haifa area and also shut down the cargo division for two days.
Israel Railways did not say what failures emerged from the initial investigation, or what caused the cargo to fall. Sources said there was a real concern about the danger created by the incident.
Marco will remain at the company in another position. Israel Railways said the announcement does not assign responsibility to any of the parties involved, and that the review process is still ongoing.
