Israel Marco, vice president of the freight division at Israel Railways, will leave his current role after giant pipes fell from a freight train onto the tracks in the Haifa area last week, causing severe disruption to train service. He will, for now, move to another position within the company.
Immediately after the incident, Marco was forced onto leave. The company’s filing to the stock exchange said acting CEO Avner Flor also ordered the creation of a special investigation committee.
Israel Railways said the committee was formed partly because of another incident in August 2025. In that case, critical electrical cable infrastructure was damaged while a train was traveling from Ashdod toward Haifa.
Marco was present at that scene and instructed the train to continue moving, a decision that led to additional cable tearing and worsened the damage.
