MK Hili Tropper Commits to Forming Broad Zionist Government Excluding Netanyahu Coalition
In a recent interview with Ben Caspit and Yinon Magal, MK Hili Tropper clarified his party's stance on the upcoming 2026 elections and government formation. Tropper emphasized that his party will not support a Netanyahu-led coalition but is open to joining any government based solely on Zionist parties. He criticized the current government’s handling of the military draft law, particularly the exemption of ultra-Orthodox draft dodgers, and expressed a commitment to a "broad Zionist government" that maximizes representation from Zionist factions.
Tropper rejected the notion that his party would shift votes from right to left, asserting that his party is positioned further right than left on the political spectrum. He stressed that his party’s goal is to unite as many Zionist parties as possible, regardless of their stance on Netanyahu. When pressed about cooperating with figures like Yair Golan, who previously insulted settlers, Tropper acknowledged disagreements but maintained his focus on a broad Zionist coalition. He firmly ruled out joining a Netanyahu coalition, citing leadership responsibility for the October 7 events and the need for new leadership.
Regarding potential alliances, Tropper said his party is open to examining partnerships before finalizing candidate lists but will not join a government dependent on non-Zionist parties. He also addressed the draft law controversy, advocating for universal service for all young Israelis, including yeshiva students. Tropper criticized Defense Minister Yoav Gallant’s handling of military commanders’ dismissals during wartime, calling it ungrateful and damaging to troop morale.
The interview highlighted Tropper’s insistence on a government that prioritizes Zionist values and military service, distancing his party from both Netanyahu’s coalition and non-Zionist factions. He positioned his party as a potential kingmaker in forming a new government after the 2026 elections.
