Senior Arab Affairs Commentator Hazi Simantov Leaves Channel 13 After Nearly 24 Years

Hazi Simantov, a senior commentator on Arab affairs at Channel 13, announced his departure from the network on Wednesday after nearly 24 years in journalism. Simantov joined the news company in 2003 when it was known as Channel 10 and became a leading voice in coverage of the Arab world and the Middle East. In a social media post, he said he informed his managers of his decision to end his role, describing Channel 13 as an "amazing journalistic home" and expressing his intention to stay in touch.

During his tenure, Simantov led in-depth reporting on sensitive topics such as Gaza, security prisoners, terrorism, and global jihad, providing authentic voices from the region. He previously served as head of the Arab affairs desk until a few years ago and was appointed to that role again in 2022 following the departure of senior commentator Zvi Yehezkel to i24NEWS. Channel 13's then-CEO Or Tzalkovnik praised him as an outstanding journalist who led objective and thorough coverage of the Arab world.

Simantov's exit is part of a broader wave of personnel changes at Channel 13. Recently, foreign correspondent Yosef Israel retired after over a decade, during which he covered major international events including the Ukraine war and Operation Sword of Iron. Meanwhile, presenter Netali Shem Tov is engaged in legal proceedings against the channel following the termination of her contract amid allegations of political persecution, which the channel disputes, citing issues with recording conversations with colleagues. Reporter Rotem Golan also recently moved to Channel 16 to work as a magazine correspondent and presenter.

Simantov has not disclosed his future plans but promised to maintain connections with his audience and the journalistic community.
