Bnei Akiva Runs Massive Summer Camps for 30,000 Youth Across 13 Forests with Extensive Safety Measures

Bnei Akiva's summer camps, a highlight for 30,000 Israeli youth, represent a year-long logistical and educational operation involving over 1,200 staff members across 13 forests nationwide, from the Carmel to the Jerusalem hills and the Shfela region. Yossi Ivgi, head of the movement's operations department, explains that preparations begin immediately after the previous camp ends, with ongoing development of educational programs, staffing, and comprehensive training for all roles.

Safety is the top priority, with specialized training for staff, including new fire safety courses, and dedicated safety personnel at each camp to identify and address risks in real time. Emergency evacuation plans are in place for every camp, supported by clear checklists and coordination between headquarters and camp levels. To combat the summer heat, the camps distribute 30 tons of ice, cooling containers, water, and refreshments to maintain the health of participants.

The camps also feature memorable events such as the Ma'apilim Camp, which culminates in a ceremony at the historic Atlit detention camp, and the Ro'eh Camp, a four-day, nearly 60-kilometer hike from Gush Etzion to Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, honoring fallen soldier Malachi Agros. The Scouts Camp was revamped into a more intensive, mobile experience, including an evening with spiritual leaders and heroes, which has received enthusiastic feedback.

Ivgi highlights a recent moment of inspiration during a Sabbath meal circle, emphasizing the youth's passion and spirit.
