Bnei Akiva Scouts Camp in Jerusalem Highlights Heroism and Responsibility

A moving evening took place at the Bnei Akiva Scouts camp in the Jerusalem hills, where members of the Amikam tribe heard stories of heroism accompanied by powerful singing and uplifting spirit. The camp, part of a nationwide summer program involving around 30,000 participants, aims to connect youth to their mission and community as they transition into leadership roles within the movement.

Yigal Klein, Secretary General of Bnei Akiva, emphasized that the camp's message centers on victory through action and responsibility, stating, "Every smile is a victory." The camp runs in six sessions over the summer, combining outdoor activities with meaningful encounters, including meetings with war heroes, bereaved families, and wounded soldiers. Klein highlighted the goal of fostering a deep connection to the land of Israel and the ethos of "Hineni" (Here I am), a value of readiness and commitment.

Among the bereaved families present were Moshe Shapira, father of Staff Sergeant Enar Shapira who fell in combat on October 7, and Aryeh Cohen, father of Captain Shila Cohen, also killed that day. Moshe Shapira shared with the youth writings from his son promoting brotherly love and mutual responsibility, values he believes should be carried forward. Aryeh Cohen spoke about the "Hineni" value, noting how his son acted selflessly during the initial hours of the October 7 attack, embodying the commitment taught by Bnei Akiva.

The camp coordinator, Elisaf Amsalem, explained that the transition from participant to leader is designed to align each youth with a role that suits their abilities and strengthens their sense of mission. The camp experience is intended to inspire the next generation to take on responsibilities within the movement and the broader community.
