Chief Rabbi Urges Heightened Safety Measures After Tragic ATV Accident During Bein Hazmanim

Following the tragic death of Meir Shaar, a student at Ponovezh Yeshiva, Chief Rabbi Kalman Bar issued an urgent call for increased safety during the Bein Hazmanim period, a traditional break for yeshiva students and the ultra-Orthodox community. Shaar died in an ATV rollover accident in an open area just three days after his engagement, shocking the yeshiva world.

In his letter, Rabbi Bar implored parents, youth, and institutions to exercise extreme caution and recognize their halachic and moral responsibilities. He reminded the public that while many take this time for rest, others risk their lives defending the country, urging continued prayers for their safety.

The Chief Rabbi emphasized strict adherence to safety rules, including obeying authorities, avoiding unapproved beaches, following pool and hiking safety guidelines, preventing open fires, supervising children, and ensuring grills and bonfires are fully extinguished to prevent fires. The Rabbinate highlighted cooperation with Israel Fire and Rescue Services and stressed that preserving life overrides all, making safety compliance a paramount religious and ethical duty to ensure everyone returns healthy to their studies.
