Retired IDF Officer Ofer Winter Verbally Attacked by Ultra-Orthodox Protesters After Recruitment Talk

Retired Brigadier General Ofer Winter was verbally assaulted by ultra-Orthodox protesters on Tuesday evening following a lecture he gave in Jerusalem. The event targeted young ultra-Orthodox men interested in specialized IDF recruitment tracks. Outside the venue, ultra-Orthodox youths protested against the recruitment of their community and were barred from entering, prompting police intervention.

After Winter’s hour-long lecture, he exited the building accompanied by a police officer. At that moment, protesters gathered around him, shouting insults such as "traitor to the Jewish people," "disgrace," and "you have no part in Judaism." Some threatened to throw a trash can at him and began following him as he left.

Eyewitnesses reported that Winter responded calmly to some of the insults during the incident. The attack reflects heightened tensions surrounding his recent public involvement, as he has been increasingly active in public forums and is considering entering politics ahead of upcoming elections.
