Retired Brigadier General Ofer Winter Attacked by Extremist Haredi Protesters After Jerusalem Lecture

On Tuesday evening in Jerusalem, retired Brigadier General Ofer Winter was pursued and attacked by extremist members of the Jerusalem Faction, a radical Haredi group, following his lecture at a Haredi recruitment event. The protesters arrived after the event had concluded and failed to disrupt the gathering itself. Winter had addressed dozens of young Haredi men interested in meaningful military service during the recruitment fair, describing them as "wonderful and pioneering youth representing a significant part of the Haredi community."

Winter condemned the extremist protesters, calling them a "delusional minority" that does not represent the broader Haredi public and harms the community as a whole. He affirmed his commitment to continue efforts to integrate the Haredi sector appropriately into the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Winter emphasized the need to deal firmly with extremists without harming the world of Torah study, expressing respect for Torah scholars and asserting that the protesters who chased him are not genuine Torah learners. He recommended that the military police consider recruiting those who pursued him immediately.
