Israeli Lawyers Hold Silence in Courtrooms After Prominent Attorney's Murder in Rishon Lezion

The Israeli Bar Association has condemned the murder of a well-known lawyer in Rishon Lezion, who was allegedly killed by a former client he represented in a personal injury case. The association called for two minutes of silence in courtrooms nationwide to honor their fallen colleague and emphasized that such violent acts cannot be ignored or normalized.

The victim, a senior attorney in his 50s, was found shot in the head at his office near the Gold Mall in Rishon Lezion. Despite initial efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead shortly after being discovered unconscious with a penetrating injury. His law partner was the one who found him.

The suspect, a 23-year-old resident of Ramla, surrendered to police at the Lakhish District headquarters following a police chase. The Bar Association expressed deep shock over the incident, highlighting that violence against lawyers undermines the rule of law and their ability to perform their professional duties safely.

In response to the growing violence against legal professionals, which reflects a broader societal problem in Israel, the Bar Association announced plans to establish a coordinating body. This initiative will involve collaboration with other professional groups facing similar threats, such as doctors and teachers, aiming to develop a comprehensive systemic response to violence. The association urged decision-makers to take immediate action to address this escalating issue.
