Israeli Research Leads to New Moovit Feature Encouraging More Walking Without Extra Travel Time
A study conducted by Bar-Ilan University has been integrated into the Moovit app as an innovative feature designed to help millions of public transport users increase their walking without extending their travel time. The research, led by Professor Yonatan Rabinovich, surveyed 2,200 commuters and found that incorporating more walking during and between public transport trips can maintain or even reduce overall travel time.
Following these findings, Professor Rabinovich, who specializes in longevity research and collaborates with various companies to expand the reach of his work, approached Moovit with the idea to add a feature encouraging more walking. Moovit implemented this feature, allowing users to optimize their routes to include additional walking segments efficiently.
Professor Rabinovich explained, "Our research shows that it is possible to walk more and still arrive at the destination in the same or less time. This is a win-win situation: more physical activity without extra time spent." The new feature aims to promote healthier commuting habits while maintaining convenience for public transport users.
