Three Staff Members Charged with Assaulting Toddlers at Tel Aviv Daycare

A serious indictment was filed at the Tel Aviv District Court against Ortal Levi, 39, a daycare assistant, and Natalie Shahar, 42, the daycare owner, accusing them of repeatedly assaulting toddlers under their care since November 2024. The prosecution alleges that Levi created an atmosphere of fear in the daycare and used physical force against the children. Some incidents reportedly occurred in the presence of Shahar, who is also accused of personally assaulting two toddlers and failing to prevent the assistants' abusive behavior.

The indictment details that some toddlers suffered injuries, sleep and eating disorders, weight loss, and behavioral changes due to the abuse. In one case, Levi allegedly caused a toddler's arm fracture during a diaper change and failed to inform the parents promptly. The child later required hospital treatment and observation. Levi faces charges including aggravated assault causing serious injury and child abuse, while Shahar is charged with aggravated assault and breach of parental or guardian duty.

Additionally, a separate indictment was filed at the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court against Ronit Shira Ariel, 63, an assistant from Bat Yam, who is accused of using force against toddlers and is charged with aggravated assault. The prosecution has requested to extend a ban preventing all three women from working with children until the legal proceedings conclude. A gag order prohibits publishing any information that could identify the toddlers involved.
