Israeli Supreme Court Justice Releases Reservist Soldier to House Arrest Over Iranian Agent Contact

Israeli Supreme Court President Justice Isaac Amit ordered the release of a reservist soldier to electronic house arrest after being charged with contact with an Iranian foreign agent. The soldier, who served in an Air Force unit, along with another soldier in a sensitive position, reportedly posted pro-Iranian graffiti and signs in exchange for money from a foreign agent linked to a country at war with Israel. The accused admitted to the acts during interrogation, and the indictment was filed in January 2025. The criminal proceedings are advanced, with the prosecution phase concluded.

Justice Amit cited the prolonged legal process and expected further detention extensions as reasons for easing the detention conditions, despite negative probation reports indicating the accused did not take responsibility and posed a danger. The judge allowed release to house arrest with electronic monitoring under family supervision, without additional restrictions such as internet or smartphone bans, even though the offenses were committed via the Telegram app. Amit acknowledged this was not an ideal arrangement but deemed it sufficient given the elapsed time and ongoing delays.
