IDF Destroys Strategic Hezbollah Underground Network in Bofor Ridge Area

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have successfully destroyed a key underground tunnel system used by Hezbollah in the Bofor Ridge area, delivering a significant strategic blow to the militant group. According to data presented to Defense Minister Israel Katz on Sunday, the demolition involved hundreds of tons of explosives targeting the main tunnel routes and additional infrastructure in the Ali Taher Ridge. Northern Command officers revealed that the network, developed over years by Hezbollah and Iranian operatives, was not only used for observation and intelligence gathering but also designed for direct fire attacks on Israeli communities and military posts. The officers emphasized that only after extensive scanning did the IDF fully understand the critical role this subterranean system played in Hezbollah’s planned offensive against Israel.

Despite this success, the officers expressed concern that other similar underground infrastructures remain intact, as the Lebanese army is reportedly unable to address them. They warned that without political approval from Israeli leadership, currently constrained by U.S. restrictions, Hezbollah could continue to maintain these strategic assets. A military spokesperson noted that Israeli intelligence units comprehended the depth and operational significance of the Iranian-led tunnel network, which was integral to Hezbollah’s plans to capture parts of the Galilee and hold territory. The tunnels were designed with complex operational logic, allowing Hezbollah fighters to remain entrenched underground for extended periods while launching attacks on Israel.

Meanwhile, the IDF has increased its presence in southern Lebanon around Hezbollah activity zones despite the ceasefire. An initial investigation into a recent clash involving the Egoz commando unit revealed that Hezbollah fighters emerged from a concealed underground facility to collect food supplies left by another Hezbollah cell. Egoz soldiers responded with fire, resulting in a moderate injury to an Egoz officer. The incident will be reviewed by the new division commander, Brigadier General Meni Liberty, to analyze the event and draw lessons.

This operation highlights ongoing tensions and the complex underground warfare capabilities Hezbollah maintains along the Israel-Lebanon border, underscoring the challenges Israel faces in neutralizing these threats under current political and diplomatic constraints.
