Following a weekend of escalating tensions, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that "frameworks for a deal" with Iran had been agreed upon, only to later declare on Air Force One that negotiations would officially resume that afternoon. This rapid shift from a warlike stance to a conciliatory tone caused confusion and anxiety in Israel.

Many Israelis, like Danit and Ofer Amar, altered their vacation plans, moving trips from Athens to Hadera due to fears of travel disruptions amid threats from Iran. Danit expressed distrust in Trump’s statements, saying, "I no longer believe him at all." However, others, such as Nitzan and Ofir, parents planning a trip to Cyprus, chose to proceed with their plans despite the warnings, recognizing a pattern of fluctuating rhetoric.

The northern region of Israel, which had been recovering in tourism numbers with July reaching 80% of pre-conflict visitor levels, saw a sharp decline following the renewed uncertainty. Shlomit Rubin, head of education at the Hula Valley Nature Reserve, noted the return of traffic jams as a sign of renewed activity but lamented the impact of the instability on tourism. Hotel occupancy in the Upper Galilee dropped significantly as travelers hesitated to book in advance, preferring last-minute reservations with cancellation options.

The Israeli military and reservists are bearing the brunt of the unpredictability. Shahar Sela, wife of a reserve platoon commander, described sleepless nights and the logistical challenges of preparing her family for possible conflict, including finding shelter and managing children’s fears. Another reservist father canceled his participation in a festival due to the uncertainty, highlighting the exhausting nature of living under constant threat.

Despite the volatility, some Israelis are determined to maintain normalcy, adapting their lives as needed. Rubin emphasized the difficulty of living under constant uncertainty driven by Trump’s tweets and media reports but expressed hope for stability in August. The situation remains fluid, with the Israeli public and institutions bracing for possible developments while trying to preserve daily routines.
