Israel Criticizes Trump for Abruptly Canceling Planned Iran Strike Without Explanation

A senior Israeli security official told Kan News that President Donald Trump's sudden cancellation of a large-scale strike on Iran, announced early Sunday, undermines operational readiness and damages trust. This marks the second time within a week that the United States informed Israel of a planned attack with potential to destabilize the Middle East, only to cancel it at the last moment without explanation. According to the report, thousands of Israeli Defense Forces and security personnel had been preparing for regional escalation over several weeks, only to face uncertainty due to the abrupt change.

An Israeli source expressed frustration with Trump's unpredictable approach, saying it complicates serious planning and forward-looking strategies. Earlier Sunday, an Iranian diplomat told the Wall Street Journal that Iran's Revolutionary Guards are considering preemptive strikes if diplomatic talks with the U.S. fail. The diplomat also indicated Tehran has yet to decide whether to accept a proposal from mediators.

Sources familiar with the situation said Israel understands that Trump prefers a diplomatic deal over a return to large-scale war. Trump announced on his social media platform Truth Social that he agreed to cancel the strike at the request of Iran and other Middle Eastern countries. He claimed the U.S. was prepared to hit Iran with unprecedented force but chose to pursue a deal for the sake of global future and Iran's survival, with Israel joining him in this commitment. He urged all parties to work immediately to secure the agreement.

In response, some Iranian voices criticized Trump as a failure and warned against secret negotiations. Reports also surfaced that Iran had planned to expand the conflict during the ceasefire period.
