West Bank Council Backs IDF Central Command Chief Avi Blot Amid Controversial Dismissal

Following Defense Minister Yoav Kitz's unexpected announcement to dismiss Central Command Chief Major General Avi Blot, the Yesha Council expressed full support for Blot on Monday. The council praised Blot's "offensive military leadership" and credited him with significant successes in combating terrorism. They highlighted his respectful and close cooperation with settlements in Judea and Samaria, stating that his leadership contributed greatly to security achievements in the region.

Kitz announced the appointment of Major General Dado Bar-Kalifa, head of the IDF Personnel Directorate, as Blot's replacement during a live broadcast on Channel 14, a move that sparked political uproar and criticism from both right and left-wing factions. Despite backing Blot, the Yesha Council also expressed support for Kitz, acknowledging his efforts to strengthen Israel's security and develop settlements in Judea, Samaria, and the Jordan Valley.

The dismissal drew sharp criticism from military figures, including retired Brigadier General Ofer Winter, who condemned the public manner of Blot's removal as damaging to public trust. Winter stated that a defense minister should not fire a general live on air but should instead summon him for a formal inquiry. Similarly, Beit El Council Head Shai Alon called the dismissal a disgrace and appealed to Prime Minister Netanyahu to reverse the decision.

The IDF spokesperson clarified that Kitz's remarks were not coordinated with the Chief of Staff and affirmed that Blot commands Central Command with professionalism and full trust. The military emphasized there are no plans to replace key commanders during this sensitive period. The Yesha Council leaders are scheduled to meet with Defense Minister Kitz later Monday afternoon to discuss the situation further.
