Israeli Soldier on Leave Detained for Shooting Palestinian Child Near Ramallah

Israeli police from the Judea and Samaria district arrested a soldier on leave suspected of involvement in a shooting that injured a Palestinian child in the village of Al-Mu'ayer near Ramallah on Friday. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that the soldier's weapon was confiscated as part of the ongoing investigation. This incident follows a series of clashes in the area, including an April confrontation near Al-Mu'ayer where two Palestinians were killed and four others injured after Palestinians threw stones at an Israeli vehicle, prompting a soldier from a nearby outpost to open fire.

Earlier, a soldier from the Border Defense unit was detained by the IDF's anti-crime unit in the Samaria region on suspicion of fatally shooting Amir Odeh, a 28-year-old Palestinian from the village of Kusra near Nablus, last month. The soldier was reportedly off duty and in the company of settlers at the time of the shooting. His weapon was also seized, and his detention was extended by two days.

Additionally, four days after a separate incident near the village of Deir Jarir in the Ramallah area, a soldier from the Border Defense unit was questioned under caution by the Military Police Investigations Unit on suspicion of causing a Palestinian's death. The police continue to examine the circumstances surrounding these shootings and the sequence of events leading to the confrontations in the West Bank.
