Israeli Military Investigates Soldier's Shooting of Palestinian Near Jenin

The Israeli military has launched an investigation into a shooting incident involving a Palestinian man near the village of Faqqua, east of Jenin. The probe was initiated after a video surfaced showing an Israeli soldier firing at a Palestinian who was standing in front of him. The footage shows the injured Palestinian looking to his left before three consecutive shots are heard.

Following the video's widespread circulation, an Israeli security source told "Walla!" that the incident is under investigation to determine if the soldier "exceeded open-fire regulations." The Palestinian Red Crescent transported the injured man to a hospital for treatment. The Israeli military has not stated that the Palestinian posed a threat to the forces.

The military explained that the shooting occurred after a report of "friction" between Israelis and Palestinians near the village. Initial army investigations with commanders indicated that the friction began when a group of Palestinians gathered around a shepherd in the area. Reinforcing troops arrived during the holiday period, fired shots in the air, and then fired towards the lower body of the Palestinian. The reasons for the shooting are still under investigation, particularly the suspicion that procedures may have been violated.
