Israel Faces Extreme Heatwave With Peak Temperatures Expected Sunday

Israel is currently experiencing a severe heatwave that is expected to reach its peak on Sunday. Today, temperatures are already higher than usual, with particularly intense heat in the inland and mountainous regions, while the coastal plain remains milder. The Meteorological Service has issued warnings about heavy to extreme heat stress across the entire country.

On Sunday, temperatures will rise further, marking the height of the heatwave, accompanied by strengthening winds from midday. Monday will see a slight temperature drop, but conditions will remain hotter than typical for the season, with continued heat stress. By Tuesday morning, clearer skies and further cooling are expected, signaling the end of the heatwave.

Dr. Amir Gevati, head of the Meteorological Service, advised avoiding outdoor activities during peak heat hours. He referenced a similar heatwave in August last year that caused numerous heatstroke cases, emphasizing the severity of the current event. He noted that while residents of the Tel Aviv metropolitan area might not feel the full impact, northern regions will experience very hot and dry conditions during midday.

Forecasted temperatures for today and tonight include Jerusalem at 23-34°C, Tel Aviv 25-32°C, Haifa 24-32°C, Safed 24-36°C, Katzrin 23-40°C, Tiberias 25-40°C, Nazareth 25-37°C, Afula 22-38°C, Beit She'an 27-41°C, Lod 24-34°C, Ashdod 25-32°C, Ein Gedi 31-41°C, Beersheba 23-37°C, Mitzpe Ramon 25-37°C, and Eilat 31-39°C.
