Belz Hasidic Leader Eliyahu Azriel Grinwald Dies Suddenly in Ashdod

Eliyahu Azriel Grinwald, a respected and prominent member of the Belz Hasidic community in Ashdod, passed away suddenly at the age of 55. He collapsed unexpectedly at the Belz Hasidic study hall 'Beit Pinchas' in Ashdod, where his son, who happened to be present, attempted resuscitation efforts. Despite these efforts, Grinwald died and was laid to rest in Ashdod's cemetery in the 'Kahal Machzikei HaDat' section.

Born in 1971 (4th of Elul, 5731) to Rabbi Chaim Grinwald, a distinguished Torah scholar and leader in the Belz community, and Sarah, daughter of Elazar Halevi Deitsch, a senior Belz Hasid in the United States and Washington D.C., Grinwald came from a notable rabbinic lineage. His grandfather was Rabbi Israel Grinwald, related to Rabbi Nahum Grinwald, brother of the famed "Aroget HaBosem" Hasidic leader. His father studied under the revered "Vayaged Yaakov" of Papa and immigrated with his family to Israel in 1976.

Eliyahu was educated personally by his father and later studied at the large yeshiva on Agripas Street in Jerusalem. After marrying the daughter of Rabbi Berl Yakubovitz, he settled in Ashdod. Professionally, he was a respected maker of tefillin cases, known for his meticulous craftsmanship and strict adherence to kashrut standards. Colleagues described him as a quiet, humble, and kind individual who was always ready to perform acts of kindness.

His funeral took place on the day of his passing, departing from his home on Yanai Street in Ashdod's neighborhood 7 at 2 p.m., passing through the Beit Pinchas study hall, and concluding at the Ashdod cemetery at 3 p.m. May his soul be bound in the bond of life.
