Prominent Rabbi Eliyahu Aryeh Leibowitz, 80, Laid to Rest in Bnei Brak

Rabbi Eliyahu Aryeh Halevi Leibowitz, a respected elder and prominent figure among Hasidim, passed away at the age of 80. His funeral was held on Thursday in Bnei Brak, where he was eulogized and then laid to rest in the Ponevezh cemetery.

Born in Romania in 1944 to Rabbi Avraham Yaakov Leibowitz, a noted rabbi and author, and Mrs. Sarah, Rabbi Leibowitz immigrated to Israel. He married the daughter of Rabbi Hillel Vaynd, a senior figure in the Belz Hasidic community, and was also the grandson of Rabbi Pinchas Epstein, a former head of the Jerusalem rabbinical court.

Known as a brilliant scholar, Rabbi Leibowitz dedicated his life to Torah study and observance, rising early for daily lessons and teaching for decades. He pursued a successful career as an accountant, which he viewed as a secondary occupation to his religious pursuits. He maintained a close connection to the Vizhnitz Hasidic court.

Rabbi Leibowitz was deeply committed to educating his children and grandchildren, many of whom became scholars and God-fearing individuals. One of his sons, Rabbi Yitzchak Leibowitz, serves as a personal attendant to the Chernobyl Rebbe.

The funeral procession began at his home on Rosenheim Street 3 in Bnei Brak. The family is observing Shiva, the traditional seven-day mourning period, at his home until the start of the holiday.
