Hapoel Tel Aviv Eyes Nick Weiler-Babb Amid Villeurbanne Financial Troubles

French club Villeurbanne is facing significant financial difficulties after failing to provide the necessary guarantees for its large budget, putting the futures of its star players in doubt. Among those affected is point guard Nick Weiler-Babb, who signed with Villeurbanne in early July but now may leave due to the club's instability. Hapoel Tel Aviv has initiated contact with Weiler-Babb's representatives as part of their efforts to strengthen their roster under coach Dimitris Itoudis.

Hapoel Tel Aviv's professional staff reached out to Villeurbanne president Tony Parker to discuss the possibility of acquiring Weiler-Babb. During these preliminary talks, Parker proposed Daniel Theis and Joel Bolomboy, who also recently joined Villeurbanne, but Hapoel prefers other options for their frontcourt.

Weiler-Babb, 30 years old and 1.94 meters tall, played last season with Anadolu Efes, averaging 7.7 points, 4.8 assists, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per EuroLeague game. Previously, he was a key player for Bayern Munich from 2020 to 2025 and was named EuroLeague Defensive Player of the Year in his final season there. Meanwhile, Silvain Francisco, another recent Villeurbanne signee, is reportedly on his way out to Panathinaikos, indicating further roster changes at the French club this summer.
