Mercedes Unveils Third-Generation GLA Compact SUV Ahead of Israeli Launch

Mercedes-Benz has revealed the third generation of its compact SUV, the GLA, which is based on the same MMA platform as the CLA and features updated design and technology. The new GLA aligns with Mercedes' current design language seen in the CLA, GLC, and C-Class models, including the iconic grille and illuminated star emblem on electric versions. It is larger than its predecessor, measuring 4.56 meters in length with a 2.79-meter wheelbase, and includes a smaller rear trunk of 410 liters but adds a 107-liter front trunk.

The interior mirrors the CLA’s cabin, featuring the "superscreen" that combines three displays under one glass panel, including a 10.25-inch instrument cluster and two 14-inch screens for multimedia and passenger use. The vehicle runs on the new MB.OS interface with AI voice assistant capabilities integrating ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing, and Google Gemini. Premium options include AMG Line trims with Alcantara upholstery, red stitching, and a panoramic sunroof with 172 illuminated stars.

At launch, the GLA will offer three electric powertrains: the GLA 200 with rear-wheel drive and 224 horsepower, a 58 kWh LFP battery, and a range of 394-447 km; the GLA 250+ with 272 horsepower, an 85 kWh NMC battery, and a range of 577-657 km; and the GLA 350 4Matic with all-wheel drive, 354 horsepower, and a range of 555-643 km. Charging times vary from 6.5 hours on 11 kW home chargers to 20-22 minutes for fast charging from 10% to 80%. All models feature 350 mm brakes front and rear.

Mercedes plans to introduce an additional 71 kWh battery electric version and mild-hybrid gasoline engines next year, including a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with outputs of 156 and 184 horsepower paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. The new GLA is expected to arrive in Israel by the end of 2026.
