The story · English

Eyal Dotan, an Israeli author, lecturer, and cultural researcher, passed away overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday at the age of 57. His funeral is scheduled for today at 4:00 PM at the Givat Brenner Cemetery. Dotan was remembered fondly by colleagues and friends, including screenwriter and journalist Avner Barneaheimer, who described him as a beloved friend surrounded by family.

Dotan was born in October 1968 in Ramat Gan, where he grew up, and later lived in Tel Aviv from the late 1980s. He served in military intelligence and held a bachelor's degree in philosophy and literature, a master's degree focusing on the poetics of gambling, and a doctorate from Tel Aviv University. He was a senior lecturer at Tel Aviv University’s literature department and interdisciplinary arts program, and also taught at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya.

In addition to his academic work, Dotan contributed as a language editor and literary critic for Haaretz, wrote political columns and cultural journalism for Ha'Ir, and was a correspondent for the journal Theory and Criticism. He authored three books: "Etzem," which won the "With the Book" prize for its English translation, "Together and Alone," and "Coincidence." Dotan is survived by his wife and three sons.
