US Intercepts Iranian Missiles Targeting Jordan; US-Saudi Strikes Hit Iran-Backed Militias in Iraq

The US military announced overnight that it successfully intercepted ballistic missiles launched by Iran toward American bases in the Middle East. According to Axios, the missiles were aimed at a US base in Jordan but were shot down before reaching their target. The US Central Command stated on X that Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps attempted a surprise attack on US forces stationed in the region, but all missiles were successfully intercepted. The command emphasized that US forces remain on high alert and readiness.

Meanwhile, the US military, in coordination with Saudi Arabia, conducted precise airstrikes in Iraq targeting Iran-backed militias. The Central Command's statement detailed that these militias, operating under the guidance of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, planned attacks against US forces and energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia. American and Saudi fighter jets struck multiple logistics sites and weapons depots across eastern Iraq in response to over 30 drone attacks by the Iranian-backed militias in the past 72 hours. These attacks, aimed at US personnel, were unsuccessful.

The statement also highlighted that between February and April 2026, there were more than 600 attempted attacks against US civilians and facilities by Iran-supported terrorist militias in Iraq. This escalation comes amid ongoing tensions, with former US President Donald Trump recently mentioning "good talks" with Iran but warning of renewed strikes if negotiations fail. Iran, however, denies interest in resuming talks with the US.
