Dutch Opposition Leader Geert Wilders Visits West Bank Settlement to Console Family of Fallen Israeli Fighter

Geert Wilders, leader of the Dutch opposition, visited the Gilad Farm settlement in the West Bank on Monday to offer condolences to the family of Benyahu Malt, a readiness platoon fighter killed in a shooting attack near the settlement last Friday. Wilders, accompanied by Yossi Dagan, head of the Shomron Regional Council, met with Malt's widow, Esther, who described her late husband as a devoted fighter deeply connected to the land and his family. She shared how Malt balanced his role as a soldier with caring for their two daughters and his passion for crafting religious artifacts.

Wilders praised Malt as a true hero and expressed solidarity, stating that millions in Europe support the family and share their pain. Dagan highlighted Malt's bravery, recalling his quick response to security incidents and his sacrifice in the fight against terror, emphasizing the critical role of fighters and families in northern Shomron as Israel's security belt.

The visit coincides with the Dutch government's announcement that starting September 22, it will ban the import, purchase, sale, and commercial mediation of products originating from Israeli settlements in the West Bank. This move places the Netherlands among a small group of European countries imposing independent sanctions on settlement trade, following the European Union's failure to reach a consensus due to opposition from some member states.

Benyahu Malt, 32, was a commander and fighter from a longstanding farming family at Gilad Farm. He was known for his dedication to responding promptly to security threats and had recently risked his life fighting a large fire in the area. Malt leaves behind a legacy of commitment to the land of Israel, his family, and his community.
