Driver Who Hit 93-Year-Old Protester Questioned by Police After Early Release Criticism
Israeli police on Friday questioned under caution a 22-year-old driver from Kafr Qasim in connection with a hit-and-run at the Geha Junction in Bnei Brak during road blockages in a protest against the arrest of yeshiva students over Torah study. She was interviewed at the Bnei Brak-Ramat Gan police station and later released home under restrictive conditions, as the investigation continues.
The incident happened the day before, during the demonstration. According to the article, the driver struck a 93-year-old pedestrian with her car and kept driving without stopping. The suspected offenses include causing injury through assault, violating several traffic regulations, and public nuisance.
The driver said she was panicked, continued driving because she feared the ultra-Orthodox protesters and worried they would lynch her. Shortly after the collision, she turned herself in to police and was taken for medical treatment.
The case drew criticism because of her early release, and the police are still investigating the event.
