Israeli Police Arrest Additional Suspect Amid Violent Musli-Jarushi Crime Feud

The violent conflict between the Musli and Jarushi crime families in Israel has escalated into dozens of violent incidents involving grenade attacks and shootings across the country. Over the past two weeks, 16 suspects have been arrested, including Yossi Musli, the head of one of the crime organizations. This week, police detained another suspect whose arrest was extended. The feud reportedly began over extortion of a businessman, with both groups demanding millions of shekels and deliberately targeting each other's associates and businesses.

The Jarushi faction focused on attacking businesses linked to Musli affiliates, while Musli's group targeted branches of the "Jafnika" convenience store chain, believed to have ties to their rivals. A senior police official emphasized the commitment to stopping the violence, stating that law enforcement would continue to strike at the criminals' financial interests if the fighting persisted.

A significant security lapse occurred when a grenade was thrown at a Jafnika branch in Rosh Pina after a police patrol left the area, prompting Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai to reprimand the Kinneret District commander, Deputy Commissioner Shlomi Tubul, with a formal warning. Meanwhile, three elite police units, including the Central District and Tel Aviv units and Lahav 433, are actively investigating the case.

In a related incident, a man was arrested for throwing a grenade at a residence in Herzliya, suspected of multiple attempts before the device exploded. His detention was extended by four days despite his lawyer's claim that the arrest was baseless and intended to create headlines.

Amid the ongoing violence, the U.S. Embassy in Israel issued an unusual security warning advising American citizens to avoid areas in Tel Aviv and Herzliya due to the risk posed by the criminal conflict. Earlier attempts at mediation, including by a well-known footballer, have so far failed to resolve the dispute.
