Former Hapoel Tel Aviv Striker Bobocar Tambedou Thrives in Estonia After Troubled Israeli Stint

Bobocar Tambedou, a Gambian striker who briefly played for Hapoel Tel Aviv, has become the top scorer in the Estonian league after a difficult period in Israel. Tambedou joined Hapoel Tel Aviv in January 2024 for 150,000 euros during the club's relegation season but was released after only six appearances within four months due to undisclosed personal reasons. Since leaving Israel, he has excelled at Flora Tallinn, leading the Estonian league with 14 goals in 18 appearances and adding one goal and three assists in three UEFA Conference League qualifying matches.

Tambedou's breakthrough in Estonia came suddenly after modest previous seasons, including eight goals and three assists the prior year and a limited impact at Dinamo Batumi in Georgia. In an interview, he described his challenging time at Hapoel Tel Aviv, citing language barriers with a new coach, isolation, and lack of support, which led him to request a contract termination despite financial concessions.

His troubles extend beyond Israel; in May 2023, Tambedou was fined in Estonia for shoplifting items worth 105 euros, an incident that complicated his visa renewal and hindered his football progress locally. Despite these issues, Flora Tallinn's gamble on him has paid off. Tambedou's contract with Flora ends in December 2026, making him a free agent at 24 years old, potentially attracting interest from larger clubs, including those in Israel's Premier League.
