Former Hapoel Haifa Defender Gabriel Tamaș Reenacts 2013 Bucharest Scandal on Romanian TV

Gabriel Tamaș, former defender for Hapoel Haifa, revisited a notorious incident from 2013 during an appearance on the Romanian TV show "Fiertzi pe Mondial" aired on Antena 1. The 42-year-old reenacted the moment he broke into a residential building in Bucharest by kicking a glass door, a scene originally captured by security cameras. Tamaș was assisted by TV host Diana Montiano, who played the role of the cleaner involved in the original event.

Tamaș described the day as sunny and recalled that he had been drinking heavily the night before, saying, "We drank industrial quantities." He admitted to being drowsy and disoriented, not knowing the area or the people in the building. He explained that he knocked on a window where a woman was cleaning, blaming her for not opening the door.

The incident occurred shortly before a friendly match between Romania and Trinidad and Tobago in the summer of 2013. After spending the night in Bucharest's Old Town, Tamaș tried to enter a friend's residential building near Victory Square. When the door did not open, he kicked the double-glass entrance and entered the stairwell, later confronting residents disturbed by the noise. Exhausted, he fell asleep on a rug in the hallway. Police were called, and footage of the event went viral. Tamaș was arrested, charged with property damage and disturbing public order, and sentenced to eight months probation with a fine for damages.

Sportingly, the incident led to his temporary removal from the Romanian national team by coach Victor Pițurcă, though Tamaș later returned to earn 67 caps and score three goals. He played for Hapoel Haifa from 2017 to 2019 before returning to Romania and moving between clubs. Recently, he won the Romanian reality show "Survivor."
