Expert Warns Saudi Normalization Risks Israel's Security, Calls Crown Prince a 'Global Fraud'
In a recent interview on Channel 14's Israel Morning program, Middle East expert Yoni Ben Menachem strongly cautioned against normalizing relations with Saudi Arabia, describing it as a dangerous move for Israel. He emphasized that Saudi Arabia is the initiator of the Arab Peace Initiative advocating for the establishment of a Palestinian state, which he views as a significant security threat to Israel. Ben Menachem highlighted the risks of Israeli withdrawal from strategic areas in Judea and Samaria, warning that such territories could fall under terrorist control, referencing the October events in Gaza following Israel's disengagement.
Ben Menachem also harshly criticized Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, labeling him a "global fraud" and asserting that he has deceived both Israel and U.S. Presidents Joe Biden and Donald Trump. He urged lowering expectations regarding the Crown Prince's intentions, suggesting skepticism about his commitments.
Regarding normalization, Ben Menachem suggested that public agreements with Saudi Arabia should be set aside since covert normalization already exists behind the scenes. He firmly stated that the creation of a Palestinian state is "out of the question" for Israel and stressed the importance of protecting Israel's security interests, including rejecting Saudi demands for nuclear reactors and F-35 fighter jets.
The interview reflects ongoing Israeli concerns about the implications of potential Saudi-Israeli normalization and the broader regional security dynamics involving Palestinian statehood and military capabilities.
