Israel Hosts Diverse Summer Food Festivals Celebrating Vegan, Spanish, and Jewish Community Cuisines
Several unique food festivals and culinary events are taking place across Israel this summer, offering a wide range of flavors and cultural experiences. In Ramat Hasharon, the "Aromas and Flavors" festival is hosting a two-day vegan food event on July 24 and 31, featuring dishes like vegan meat-filled tortillas, shawarma, and smoked kohlrabi steak, all available for take-away. The festival highlights innovative plant-based cuisine with desserts such as chocolate cake with toasted coconut.
In Tel Aviv, the Riverside restaurant runs a weekly Friday pop-up called Deli & Bakery, serving Italian-style sandwiches, pizzas from a tabun oven, and various baked goods from 9:00 to 15:00. Meanwhile, Sarona Market in Tel Aviv will host the Mercado Estrella Damm Spanish food festival from July 29 to 31, inspired by markets in Barcelona, Madrid, Seville, and the Basque region. Ten top Israeli chefs, including Yonatan Roshfeld and Guy Gamzu, will present Spanish-inspired dishes alongside 22 food stalls offering paella, tapas, and croquettes, with Estrella Damm beer available.
Podish, the culinary arm of the Museum of the Jewish People, is running the Hidden Communities Week from July 26 to 31, showcasing rare Jewish community cuisines from India, China, Peru, Italy, the former Soviet Union, Uganda, and Brazil. The week concludes with a panel and museum tour for 50 shekels.
In Mitzpe Ramon, chefs Tal Ashkenazi and Omer Salzer of BOTZ are hosting open-air chef dinners in a desert vineyard every Thursday in August, featuring a specially crafted menu. Additionally, on July 28, the culinary school Bishulim in Jaffa will hold a pop-up tasting event "The Meal," presenting a six-course sensory menu by students and graduates, priced at 280 shekels.
Other events include young chef workshops for children at BBB in August, a Jewish-Arab youth summer camp focused on cooking and climate at Ben Shemen Youth Village from July 26 to 31, and a new circus-themed cocktail and food menu launched at Balaboy bar in Tel Aviv.
