Israeli Woman Escapes Domestic Abuse Shelter to Become Police Officer and Advocate

Sofia Alem, currently serving as a police officer in Eilat, Israel, has a remarkable life story marked by resilience and transformation. As a teenager, Sofia fled domestic violence and sought refuge in a women's shelter in Haifa after leaving her family home in the village of Manda with her mother at age 18. During this difficult period, she learned Hebrew, integrated into Israeli society, and began volunteering with the Israel Police, which soon became her calling.

Despite the challenges she faced, Sofia successfully enlisted in the police force, relocated to Eilat, and started her career as an officer.
