Woman Escapes Abusive Relationship, Marries Israeli Soldier

A woman, identified by the pseudonym Michal, has married an Israeli soldier after escaping a decade-long abusive relationship with a man from the Hebron area. The relationship began when Michal was 17, and her then-boyfriend, who was older, exploited her insecurities. He eventually convinced her to convert to Islam, leading her to abandon her Jewish faith and IDF enlistment. They married and had two children, but the relationship quickly devolved into control, restrictions, and severe physical, emotional, verbal, and financial abuse.

During their marriage, Michal's husband allegedly threatened her life and even harmed their infant son. Despite repeated attempts to escape, fear and threats kept her trapped. The organization Yad L'Achim provided ongoing support throughout this ordeal, assisting Michal and her children with housing, financial aid, and psychological support, enabling her to eventually leave the abusive relationship.

Following her escape, Michal reconnected with her Jewish faith and sought to build a new life for herself and her children based on Jewish values. She met and fell in love with a soldier who is a combat veteran from Gaza. Their relationship progressed, and Michal desired a union founded on holiness and commitment.

This past week, Michal and the soldier were married in a Jewish ceremony. The wedding signifies Michal's long journey from a vulnerable teenager to a survivor who has chosen a life of freedom and Jewish observance. Yad L'Achim stated that Michal's story demonstrates that a new beginning is possible even after years in seemingly hopeless situations, and the organization continues to support women in similar complex relationships.
