IDF Officer in Bedouin Reconnaissance Battalion Faces Discipline Over Violent Outburst

A platoon commander in the IDF's Bedouin reconnaissance battalion was sentenced to five days of confinement following multiple violent incidents against a female officer and property damage at the base. According to testimonies obtained by Channel 14 News, the officer threatened the female officer, shouted aggressively, kicked a door, and smashed a red emergency phone during a dispute over duty assignments. Witnesses said the commander ran toward the officer holding the emergency phone and threatened to "blow her head off." Other officers, including the battalion commander and operations officer, intervened physically to stop the outburst.

The incident reportedly escalated with the commander damaging flowerpots, removing flags, and breaking the emergency phone in the base's parking area. Soldiers in the battalion claimed this was not the first violent episode involving the officer, alleging he previously pointed a weapon at another soldier. Despite these claims, the officer received only a five-day detention and returned to active service afterward.

Following the event, senior IDF officials allegedly told Jewish soldiers in the battalion to be "sensitive" toward their Bedouin comrades, with one message stating, "They are Bedouins, it’s a different mentality and you have to accept it." The IDF spokesperson responded that no physical violence was used against anyone during the incident, describing it as a heated professional argument that escalated into shouting and property damage. The officer was disciplined with seven days of confinement and resumed his role, while the female officer was fined for inappropriate remarks during the confrontation. The IDF emphasized the behavior was inconsistent with its values and norms and was addressed through disciplinary measures.
