Extremists Storm Rabbi Meir Faivelzon's Jerusalem Lecture, Sparking Violent Clashes

On the night of Tisha B'Av, a group of extremist ultra-Orthodox protesters forcibly interrupted a lecture by Rabbi Eliyahu Meir Faivelzon at his Jerusalem study hall, "Patei Olam." The protesters verbally abused the rabbi while he was seated on the floor, shouting insults and curses. As his students tried to defend him and push the attackers out, the confrontation escalated into a physical and verbal altercation. The assailants claimed the lecture violated rabbinic directives.

This incident is part of a recent pattern of hostility toward Rabbi Faivelzon. Just a week earlier, he was physically attacked during a lesson in Modiin Illit, where dozens of protesters surrounded the building. Video footage showed young men violently pushing the rabbi as he attempted to escape. Although he was eventually evacuated by car, the protesters blocked his vehicle for over an hour.

Rabbi Faivelzon is a prominent and influential figure within the ultra-Orthodox community, leading a yeshiva and serving as a spiritual guide for many who integrate into the workforce. His teachings, which focus on Jewish thought, Bible study, and a more modern approach, have provoked strong opposition from extremist factions within the community who resist his influence.

Moderate voices and his students expressed deep shock at the violent attacks, especially given that they occurred on Tisha B'Av, a day commemorating the destruction of the Temple traditionally associated with the consequences of baseless hatred. They condemned the violence and hatred directed at the rabbi during this solemn occasion.
