National Security Minister Ben Gvir Tours East Jerusalem, Highlights Improved Security and Police Presence

On the eve of Tisha B'Av, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir conducted a comprehensive tour of East Jerusalem to assess the security situation and police activity. Accompanied by Jerusalem Deputy Mayor Aryeh King, Jerusalem District Commander Commissioner Avshalom Peled, Kdem Area Commander, and other senior officials, Ben Gvir received a briefing on recent security developments. The data presented showed a dramatic decrease in hostile terrorist activity, a significant rise in weapons seizures, an increase in neighborhood watch members, and an overall improvement in security conditions.

During the visit, Ben Gvir toured a new police complex under construction in East Jerusalem, which will serve as a central hub for Kdem Area, Shalem Station, and other police units. This strategic move aims to expand police presence and strengthen governance in the area. Additionally, 40 new police positions and 40 municipal enforcement roles have been added to bolster law enforcement capabilities.

Ben Gvir also met with local residents and business owners who expressed a sense of improved personal security while calling for continued enforcement and governance efforts. Concluding the tour, Ben Gvir stated, "There were days when the police were almost absent here, and Jews feared passing through. Today, the reality has changed, there is more police presence, more calm, Jews work and move here safely, and we are the owners of this place." He emphasized the operational data showing reduced terrorist activity and increased proactive policing, asserting that determination and strength send a clear message to adversaries.

The tour comes amid ongoing complex security challenges in East Jerusalem and the West Bank. Recent incidents include the arrest of a Nazareth resident suspected of planning an attack on the government and the capture of an armed fugitive in Ramallah after a dramatic chase. These efforts reflect the continued commitment of Israeli security forces to enhance law enforcement presence and maintain safety for residents and visitors in sensitive areas.
