Trump Meets Lebanese President Aoun, Backs Lebanon’s Role in Abraham Accords

Lebanese President Michel Aoun visited the White House on Tuesday for talks with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington. Trump expressed optimism about Lebanon’s future and praised Aoun as a potentially great Middle Eastern leader. He highlighted progress in the Israel-Lebanon negotiations, referring to a recent agreement on redeploying forces and Israel’s partial withdrawal. Trump also mentioned Speaker Nabih Berri as a cooperative figure who supports ending hostilities in southern Lebanon.

Trump emphasized the success of the Abraham Accords, stating he believes Lebanon has an important role to play in the regional peace process. He acknowledged Lebanon’s hardships but praised its resilient and talented people, pledging U.S. assistance. Trump also noted ongoing concerns about Hezbollah but claimed the U.S. has taken significant actions the world should recognize.

President Aoun thanked Trump for the historic visit and achievements, including signing a framework agreement to end hostility between Israel and Lebanon. He expressed a shared vision for regional stability and peace, affirming support from Nabih Berri, who seeks to end the conflict in southern Lebanon despite ongoing destruction there. Aoun called for cooperation to achieve lasting peace in the region.
