Trump Pledges US Support to Lebanon in Call with President Aoun, Urges Israel Withdrawal

US President Donald Trump assured Lebanon of American support for its sovereignty, economy, and military forces during a phone call with Lebanese President Michel Aoun overnight. According to the Lebanese presidency, Trump congratulated Aoun on the US-brokered framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel and reaffirmed Washington's commitment to Lebanon and its citizens. Trump emphasized continued US assistance in implementing the agreement and restoring security and stability in Lebanon. He highlighted support for Lebanon's sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, as well as efforts to expand state authority across Lebanese territory through its military forces. Trump also pledged backing for Lebanon's economy and legitimate security forces, stating that the US would spare no effort to help Lebanon regain its regional and international role.

President Aoun expressed gratitude for US support of Lebanon's legitimate authority and institutions, particularly the army. He affirmed Beirut's responsibility to implement the framework agreement and hoped Washington would help prevent violations and ensure all commitments are fulfilled. Aoun called on the US to pressure Israel to withdraw from areas it still occupies in southern Lebanon to facilitate Lebanese army deployment up to the border. The Lebanese presidency statement noted that Trump indicated he would soon meet with President Aoun in Washington.
