Former Israeli National Security Official Faces Charges Over Unauthorized Gun Licenses
Israel Avishar, former head of the Firearms Licensing Department at the Ministry of National Security, is under consideration for prosecution by the State Attorney's Economic Department. The State Attorney, Amit Isman, is contemplating charging Avishar with fraud and breach of trust, pending a hearing. The allegations stem from Avishar allegedly allowing unauthorized personnel to issue tens of thousands of gun licenses to Israeli citizens after the outbreak of Operation Iron Swords. These unauthorized actors reportedly issued approximately 23,000 conditional gun permits and around 15,000 final gun licenses without proper legal authority.
