Former Israeli Security Ministry Official Faces Possible Charges Over Illegal Gun Licensing
The Economic Department of the Israeli State Prosecution informed Israel Avishar, former head of the Firearms Licensing Division at the Ministry of National Security, that Attorney General Amit Isman is considering indicting him, pending a hearing. Avishar is suspected of fraud and breach of trust offenses. According to the prosecution, following the outbreak of Operation Iron Swords, Avishar authorized unauthorized parties to issue gun licenses to Israeli citizens. These unauthorized entities issued approximately 23,000 conditional gun permits and around 15,000 final gun licenses. The investigation is being conducted by the Lahav 433 unit of the Israel Police.
