State Attorney Considers Charging National Security Ministry Official for Fraud Over Illegal Gun Licenses
The Economic Department of the State Attorney's Office has informed Israel Avishar, former head of the Firearms Licensing Division at the Ministry of National Security, that State Attorney Amit Isman is considering indicting him, pending a hearing, on suspicions of fraud and breach of trust. The allegations stem from actions taken after the outbreak of the "Iron Swords" war, during which Avishar allegedly allowed unauthorized parties to issue gun licenses to Israeli citizens. These unauthorized entities reportedly issued approximately 23,000 conditional firearm permits and around 15,000 final gun licenses. The investigation was conducted by the Lahav 433 unit's Economic Crimes Division (Yaha).
