AEK Athens Pursues Hapoel Be'er Sheva Star Kings Kangwa Ahead of Champions League

A day before Hapoel Be'er Sheva begins its European campaign in the Champions League group stage, Greek club AEK Athens is intensifying efforts to sign Zambian star Kings Kangwa. AEK has already submitted an offer to bring Kangwa to the Agia Sophia Stadium, reflecting strong interest in the player who was named last season's Israeli Premier League Player of the Year.

Dimitris Vergos, a reporter for AEK, highlighted Kangwa's standout performance against AEK last season during the Conference League qualifiers, saying, "He was the kind of player you immediately recognize as very good. He stood out far above all others on the pitch." Vergos noted that the Greek league is considered stronger than the Israeli league, adding that there is pressure on both sides to finalize the deal. He suggested that if the financial gap is indeed small, the transfer is likely to be completed soon.

Currently, Kangwa's proposed contract with AEK is for two years with an option for a third, offering a salary of 750,000 euros per year excluding bonuses. If AEK raises its offer today, Kangwa could transfer before Hapoel Be'er Sheva's match tomorrow. Otherwise, he is expected to play in the upcoming matches for Be'er Sheva, which remains the club's working assumption until a deal is reached.
