Israeli Combat Dog Skar Uncovers Hezbollah Ambush in Lebanon, Dies Saving Golani Fighters

An Israeli Golani reconnaissance unit recently discovered a Hezbollah bunker on the slopes of the Litani River in Lebanon. The unit deployed Skar, a combat dog from the Oketz unit, to scan the underground tunnel system. During the operation, militants detected Skar, throwing a grenade and firing at him, thereby revealing their position to the Israeli forces. The ensuing clash lasted several hours and resulted in the elimination of three militants.

After the battle, Skar was sent again to the bunker entrance to ensure no further threats remained. Near the structure, he identified additional militants hiding in bushes, preparing an ambush against the soldiers. Skar attacked the militants, exposing the trap and warning the troops, but was fatally shot during the confrontation. Footage from the event shows Skar pinning a militant to the ground, preventing harm to the soldiers.

Major A from the Oketz unit explained that combat dogs are carefully selected through a process similar to unit formation. They undergo rigorous training to acclimate them to explosions, gunfire, helicopters, and tanks so that these experiences are not new during combat. Since the war began on October 7, 36 combat dogs have been killed, but their actions have saved hundreds of soldiers. Dogs trained to detect explosives have uncovered 350 bombs, while attack dogs like Skar have identified dozens of militants across various battlefronts.
