Xiaomi to Launch Global Redmi Note 17 Pro with Weaker Specs and Possible Rebranding
Xiaomi is preparing for the global launch of its new Redmi Note 17 series, but recent reports reveal that the international version will feature significantly downgraded specifications compared to the Chinese model. The Pro variant, highly anticipated worldwide, will have reduced memory options, dropping from up to 12GB RAM and 512GB storage in China to basic configurations of 4GB or 6GB RAM internationally. This reduction could impact device performance, especially for running heavy applications.
Battery capacity will also be cut from 9,000mAh in the Chinese model to 8,340mAh globally, although Xiaomi plans to market it as approximately 8,500mAh. The phone will retain fast charging at 67 watts and reverse charging capabilities. Additionally, some global units might be rebranded under Xiaomi’s budget POCO brand, potentially lowering prices but diluting the Redmi brand identity.
The device will feature a 6.83-inch AMOLED display with a peak brightness of 3,500 nits and a Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 processor. It maintains a robust IP69K rating for water and heat resistance. While the top-tier Chinese model costs around $295, Israeli consumers and others abroad will need to assess if the weaker specs justify the price. The coming weeks will reveal consumer reactions and whether this strategy affects Xiaomi’s market share internationally, especially in Israel where the brand is popular.
