BMW Launches F450GS as Affordable, Premium Entry to Adventure Motorcycles
BMW has introduced the F450GS, its most affordable adventure motorcycle, unveiled at the 2024 EICMA show. Designed as a premium entry-level bike in the sub-500cc segment, the F450GS aims to bridge the gap between BMW's large, high-tech GS models and smaller, less impressive options like the G310GS. The new model features a 420cc parallel-twin engine with 47.7 horsepower, delivering smooth power and a distinctive exhaust note. It incorporates advanced technology including an automatic centrifugal clutch (ERC) that allows clutchless starts and gear shifts, enhancing urban riding convenience.
Visually, the F450GS closely resembles its larger siblings, sporting BMW’s iconic M colors and aggressive styling with a signature beak front and a tinted windscreen. The bike weighs 178 kg wet, significantly lighter than bigger GS models, contributing to excellent stability and handling even in crosswinds. It offers modern electronics such as ride-by-wire throttle, traction control, ABS with cornering support, dynamic engine braking, and three riding modes (Rain, Road, Enduro), with an optional Enduro Pro mode.
The suspension includes a 43mm KYB upside-down fork and a progressive KYB monoshock with 180mm travel, paired with 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels. While the stock wheels favor road use, customers can order spoked wheels for more serious off-road riding. The seat height is 845mm, and the 13-liter fuel tank supports longer rides. Despite being manufactured in India in partnership with TVS, BMW positions the F450GS as a premium product, reflected in its price range of 45,000 to 52,000 shekels, higher than many competitors.
BMW’s approach with the F450GS is to offer a complete, capable motorcycle that respects the GS legacy, suitable for both urban commuting and light off-road adventures. It combines the brand’s signature style, advanced electronics, and manageable weight to deliver a confident riding experience. The bike is particularly recommended for riders seeking a versatile, stylish machine that stands out in the crowded sub-500cc adventure market.
