Yael Shevach Loses Home in Massive Fire at Gilead Farm in West Bank
Israeli media personality Yael Shevach revealed on Saturday night that her home was completely destroyed in a large fire that broke out at Gilead Farm in the West Bank. Shevach posted on social media, "The house is gone. We are okay. Thank you all for your concern. I have nothing more to say and no home." The fire consumed 13 homes, a garage, and a wood storage facility in the settlement, injuring two firefighters and causing the evacuation of a resident with minor injuries.
The blaze began near Mitzpe Yishai in the Kedumim area and spread rapidly due to strong winds, breaching the settlement's perimeter. Firefighting efforts involved dozens of teams, eight firefighting aircraft from the "Elad" squadron, and a reconnaissance helicopter. Two firefighters were injured, one moderately and one lightly, and several firefighting vehicles were damaged or destroyed by the intense heat.
The IDF's Shomron Brigade joined the firefighting and evacuation efforts, providing medical aid and water tankers. Police blocked Highway 55 and key junctions to facilitate emergency response. Authorities have launched a joint investigation involving fire investigators, police, and security agencies into suspected arson as the cause of the fire.
Simultaneously, firefighting teams tackled multiple fires in northern Israel, including near Shamsheet in the Jezreel Valley, Kfar Vradim, and Mount Tabor. Northern District Commander Yair Elkaim reported that all northern fires were brought under control by late afternoon, though crews remain on high alert for flare-ups, especially in the West Bank area.
This incident highlights the ongoing risks of wildfires in Israel and the West Bank amid dry conditions and security concerns.
